The New Healthcare Marketplace: Explained

Thanks to WebMD Medical News, the purpose of the confusing new changes to the medical industry are laid out for us. The Health Insurance Marketplace (also called Exchanges) will soon be available in 34 states.

These establishments will open thousands of jobs who will staff the call centers. Starting in June, between 7,000 and 9,000 people will be available to answer calls and questions, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Simply call 1-800-Medicare, which is manned by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

More than 1.7 Million Children Covered

The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which was reauthorized in 2009, has had immense success, reaching and helping children all over the country. The Affordable Care Act and Children’s Health Insurance Program budgeted $140 million for the “Connecting Kids to Coverage Outreach and Enrollment Grants.”

Grants, amounting anywhere between $190,000 to $1 million, were recently awarded to “41 state agencies, community health centers, school-based organizations and nonprofit groups,” reaching 22 states.
