October: It’s Not Just For Breast Cancer

When you ask someone to name a health-related thing that they associate with October, after a few seconds of deep thinking their eyes usually light up and they respond triumphantly, “BREAST CANCER!” Breast cancer gets a lot of the attention in October, and many people think it’s the only disease that October is dedicated as an awareness month for, but that’s actually not true.

At Rosetta Radiology, we want our patients to be healthy in every way possible, and we understand that “health” encompasses so much more than just cancer-free. There are so many different diseases out there that people are struggling with, that deserve awareness. Yes, breast cancer is one of them, but that may not be a disease that hits home for you. We want to bring attention to the many different diseases whose awareness week/month is in October.

Month Long:

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Down Syndrome Awareness Month

Healthy Lung Month

National Orthodontic Health Month

National Spina Bifida Awareness Month

SIDS Awareness Month

Week Long:

Mental Illness Awareness Week (October 5th-11th)

Day Long:

World Cerebral Palsy Day (October 1st)

National Depression Screening Day (October 9th)

World Mental Health Day (October 10th)

Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day (October 13th)

World Spine Day (October 16th)

World Osteoporosis Day (October 20th)

International Stuttering Awareness Day (October 22nd)

Lung Health Day (October 29th)

Almost everyone in the world knows someone who or has personally been affected by something on this list. Maybe it’s breast cancer, maybe it’s not. Find what’s important to you, what affects the people that you love, and try to raise awareness about it. Every illness deserves awareness. Every illness has the potential to be cured if we can just devote the time, energy, and funding into the process. Pick a cause and use the month of October to start educating the people around you.
