PREPARATIONS FOR EXAMS MRI SCANS: Indicate if you have any of the following in your body – pacemaker, implantable defibrillator, brain aneurysm clips, cochlear implants, implanted insulin pump, ocular foreign body. BREAST MRI: Exam should be done on days 8-13 of the menstrual cycle. Please bring any pertinent x rays with you on the day of your test. CT SCAN: If you are over 60 or have diabetes please have a BUN and creatinine level available from your most recent blood test. If you are taking GLOCOPHAGE please inform the office. ABDOMEN CT: You will be required to drink oral contrast for approximately 2 hours prior to your scan time. You can pick the contrast up to drink outside of the office if you so desire. ABDOMEN AND PELVIC CT: You will be given oral contrast to drink for approx. 2 hours prior to the scan time. CT SCAN WITH IV CONTRAST: Do not eat or drink 3 hours prior to the exam. PET CT: Please arrive on time for this test. To cancel 24 hour a notice is required. Avoid physical exertion for 48 hours prior to test. Do not eat or drink 6 hours prior except plain water. No caffeine , gum, candy or mints. Take your prescribed medications. Please Wear warm, comfortable clothing and nothing with metals. Allow 2-3 hours to complete the test. BARIUM ENEMA: Your prep starts two nights before the exam. First night have your dinner at 6pm, then at 7pm take three(3) dulcolax tablets. Then after start a clear liquid diet, stay on clear liquids all day the next day. Then at 7PM take three(3) more dulcolax tablets, continue liquids until exam. You can get dulcolax tablets over the counter at any pharmacy. UPPER GI SERIES: Do not eat or drink after midnight the night before. Take your medications with a little bit of water. DIGITAL MAMMOGRAM: Bring prior films. No powders, lotions or deodorants on the day of exam. HYSTEROSALPINGOGRAM OR HYSTEROSONOGRAM - Study should be done within first 10 days of your cycle and 1 day after bleeding. You can take Motrin or Advil 1 hour prior to the test. ULTRASOUND: Abdomen- do not eat or drink for 6 hours prior to the test. Pelvic and bladder ultrasound- drink 32 oz of fluids 1 hour prior to the test and do not empty your bladder. Transvaginal Pelvic Ultrasound- No Prep Breast Biopsy: For 1 week prior to the procedure, do not take medications which promote bleeding such as aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, Aleve), Vit E, green tea or blood thinner (coumadin or heparin). Consult your doctor prior to discontinuing your medication. PLEASE INFORM US ABOUT ANY HISTORY OF ALLERGY OR REACTION TO CONTRAST IF YOU ARE SCHEDULED FOR AN EXAM REQUIRING CONTRAST INJECTION. You may require special instructions. |
